Practice managers – we need your help

Helping GPs meet their 2024 CPD requirements

This year the RACGP’s end-of-year grace period has changed at the request of the Medical Board of Australia. This is likely to impact some of your GPs.

While previously our members were able to do activities in January and February and backdate that activity for the previous CPD cycle, in 2025 our GPs will not be able to do this.

In January and February 2025, GPs will be able to finalise their CPD records by manually recording the activities they did in 2024.

As practice manager, you are a valuable source of information and support for your practice team. We anticipate that some of your GPs will approach you feeling stressed and looking for help.

What can practice managers do?

This page is developed specifically to help you. We have resources specifically designed for you, and some that you can forward to GPs in your practice.

Ideally you can help identify Reviewing Performance (RP) and Measuring Outcomes (MO) activities that take place in your practice routinely.

We suggest having a list of dates or windows of time when key activity took place:

  • practice meetings,
  • review of practice policies / procedures,
  • quality improvement activity,
  • Multidisciplinary care meetings,

And secondly, please direct members to the CPD resources we have developed to help GPs meet their 2024 CPD requirements, which are on this page.

  • The most common problem is that GPs haven’t submitted their PDP.
  • The next common problem is that a GP has not met their minimum 5 hours of measuring outcomes CPD.
  • For those who are less tech savvy, some might need some extra support to navigate myCPD website and app to log their activities confidently.

Did you know that your whole practice could benefit from accessing RACGP’s catalogue of general practice resources?

As the natural CPD home for GPs, the RACGP has extensive catalogue of publications, guides and resources to support general practice. Many of our resources, both clinical and non-clinical, are designed to support practice teams.

With the shift to annual CPD requirements, the RACGP developed CPD solutions to make it easier for GPs to access high quality, relevant CPD in their practice setting.  We offer curated content that GPs can do independently or together with others in their practice.

And our myCPD website and app, makes it easier to capture valuable learning and quality improvement activity that practice teams do together.

In 2025 the RACGP will be connecting with practice owners and managers to build more CPD solutions to support practice teams on topics that align with your practice priorities.
