RACGP names new CEO

After an extensive search for the right candidate, Georgina van de Water will take over as the RACGP’s chief executive officer.
 
Ms van de Water will officially begin in her new role on 5 April, taking over from interim CEO Adjunct Associate Professor David Hillis, who will finish the day before.
 
The appointment comes after former CEO Paul Wappett’s sudden departure from the college in November.
 
RACGP Board Chair Dr Lara Roeske congratulated Ms van de Water on her appointment, describing her as a ‘talented and experienced leader with exceptional knowledge of the sector’. 
 
‘Georgina is adept in overseeing a wide variety of strategic and operational responsibilities, ensuring outstanding customer service by supporting employee development and performance,’ she said.
 
‘She also brings exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills and places a high value on ensuring engagement with and accountability to our members, registrars and other stakeholders.’
 
Ms van de Water has been the RACGP’s Chief GP Training Officer since she joined the organisation in 2022.
 
She was previously CEO of GP Synergy, the provider of the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program for specialist GPs in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
 
Ms van de Water was also chief operating officer of the regional training provider and primary health network, WentWest, and has held senior roles both nationally and internationally in the private and not-for-profit sectors.  
 
Dr Roeske said this experience will be invaluable as she goes on the lead the RACGP.

‘In that time, the college effectively tripled its employees and added a diverse range of systems and sites across Australia while receiving positive feedback from our registrars.
