Prescribing therapeutic vapes – overview of the regulatory changes

Find out the ‘why, when and how’ of prescribing therapeutic vapes. The Therapeutic Goods Administration, in partnership with the RACGP and Quit Centre, is hosting an information session for prescribers on recent vaping reforms.
 
Medical and nurse practitioners will learn about the regulatory reforms and what the changes mean, as well as hear practical information on prescribing therapeutic vapes and strategies for supporting smoking and vaping cessation. It will also include a demonstration of the SAS/Authorised Prescriber online system.

New MBS bulk-billing incentives fact sheet
To help GPs who may be confused about the latest MBS bulk-billing incentives which came into effect on 1 November, and which item number to bill, the RACGP has developed a fact sheet to help members understand the new bulk-billing incentives item structure and the tie-in with MyMedicare.
 
The fact sheet covers:
  • general eligibility for bulk-billing incentives
  • tripled bulk-billing incentives item numbers by level of remoteness and eligible services
  • standard bulk-billing incentives (pre-existing items)
  • eligibility scenarios for the new tripled bulk-billing incentives
  • links to further information.
 
iGAS: Coroner’s finding and public health advisory
In Victoria, the resurgence of invasive group A streptococcal disease (iGAS) has become a growing concern, particularly among children, since late 2022.
 
The Victoria Department of Health has disseminated crucial information regarding iGAS, including its causes, symptoms, and preventive measures. These vital messages are accessible on the State Government’s website, offering valuable resources to safeguard against the disease.
 
GP Research Project Noticeboard
The GP Research Project Noticeboard presents surveys and research projects which GPs can get involved in.
 
Current projects include:
  • a GP survey on clinical courage
  • focus groups for GPs referring patients for hearing care
  • a Delphi survey on the secondary use of general practice data for research.
Members can also submit their research projects to the noticeboard to invite participation from the general practice community.
