The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has welcomed the newest specialist GPs joining the profession at a Fellowship Ceremony in Brisbane, celebrating the next generation of family doctors set to strengthen communities across Queensland.
A total of 157 doctors were formally admitted as Fellows of the RACGP and a further six as Rural Generalists, marking the culmination of years of intensive study, clinical training and dedication to patient care.
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright congratulated the new Fellows and acknowledged the vital contribution they will make to communities across the state.
"Achieving Fellowship is a remarkable accomplishment and a milestone that reflects years of hard work, resilience and commitment to providing high-quality patient care," he said.
"Today we celebrate not only the dedication of these doctors, but the significant impact they will have in communities throughout Queensland for many years to come.
"Specialist GPs are the backbone of our healthcare system. They provide comprehensive, lifelong care and play a critical role in preventing illness, managing chronic disease and keeping people healthy and out of hospital.
"It is especially encouraging to see so many doctors choosing careers in general practice at a time when demand for healthcare services continues to grow across Queensland.
"Whether they practise in metropolitan, regional, rural or remote communities, these new Fellows will make a real difference to patients' lives."
RACGP Queensland Chair Dr Cath Hester also highlighted the importance of continued investment in GP training pathways to ensure all Queenslanders have access to quality primary healthcare close to home.
"We know that training doctors in local communities helps build a sustainable workforce for the future. Continued support for GP training, supervision and rural pathways is essential to ensuring every Queenslander can access the care they need, when and where they need it," she said.
The Fellowship Ceremony brought together new Fellows, family members, friends, supervisors and mentors to celebrate one of the most significant milestones in a doctor's career.
