RACGP thanks Health Minister Rockliff

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has thanked Tasmania's Premier Jeremy Rockliff for his service has health minister after he announced he was handing over the role to another cabinet member.

Media reported today that Mr Rockliff would be announcing changes to his cabinet in coming days, and was relinquishing his role as health minister so he can "focus on driving economic growth and creating more jobs for all Tasmanians."

RACGP Tasmania Chair Dr Tim Jackson thanked Premier Rockliff for his service as health minister.

“I want to thank Premier Rockliff for his service as health minister,” he said.

“It is a crucial role and the premier stepped into it at challenging time. We worked closely together, particularly during the pandemic, and I was pleased to see that he recognises the importance of general practice as the backbone of our health system, and the need for our hospital system and primary care system to work together, to benefit patients.

“I look forward to welcoming our new health minister and working with them to improve access to care in our state, and make sure we have enough GPs in the communities that need them.”
