GPs across Australia have been called to nominate for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) annual Awards to celebrate their work on the frontline caring for communities.
The RACGP Awards recognise the value of GPs in our community, celebrating the achievements of exceptional individuals who have gone above and beyond to care for their patients.
Nominations for the 2020 Awards opened on Wednesday 20th May and close on Friday 14th August. The Awards are open to practising GPs, as well as those in training, GP supervisors and general practices.
RACGP President Dr Harry Nespolon said the Awards were an opportunity to celebrate the impact and value of general practice.
“GPs receive all kinds of thanks and acknowledgements from their patients but in the medical profession their work can tend to be overlooked.
“The RACGP Awards provide the opportunity to formally celebrate the work of GPs across the country and their dedication to holistic patient care, which is fundamental to Australia’s world-class health system.
“GPs are on the frontline doing essential work caring for their patients every day – Australians access general practice more than any other area of the health system, with more than two million GP visits every week.
“As the first port of call for patients, GPs played a fundamental role in two health public health crisis this year – supporting patients impacted by the devastating bushfires, and curbing COVID-19 in Australia. All throughout these crisis GPs have continued caring for their regular patients and providing preventative healthcare, which may not make headlines but does keep patients healthy and out of hospitals.”
The RACGP President called for people to nominate GPs doing outstanding work for the 2020 Awards, as well as those in training, GP supervisors and general practices.
“Previous Awards recipients have been truly inspirational, going above and beyond to care for their patients and contribute to the health of their communities.
“I urge those who know such GPs, trainees, supervisors or practices to nominate them for this year’s Awards – and help to inspire our profession and the next generation of GPs.”
