Highly respected Bella Vista doctor Walid Jammal has been named the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory (NSW&ACT) finalist in the 2017 Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) General Practitioner of the Year Award.
The annual award recognises GPs who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of their community.
Chair of RACGP NSW&ACT Dr Guan Yeo said Dr Jammal was a most worthy recipient of the award.
“Dr Jammal has devoted his career to enhancing the lives of his patients and their family members,” Dr Yeo said.
“He has been an outstanding advocate for general practice and is a wonderful asset for his community.”
Dr Jammal has been practicing at The Hills Family General Practice for over 16 years and has treated over 11,000 patients.
Dr Jammal is regarded as a community leader in Western Sydney by his patients and other doctors. He has been a GP supervisor since 2005 and has personally supervised 19 GP registrars.
His hands-on approach to teaching has meant that many of his registrars have returned to work at The Hills Family General Practice after their training – a testament to his dedication to the positive learning environment Dr Jammal has cultivated in his practice.
Dr Yeo said he was grateful for Dr Jammal’s impact on general practice.
“Dr Jammal has brought immense value to the array of communities that he belongs to and has inspired so many of the next generation of GPs to follow in his footsteps,” Dr Yeo said.
“He has been significant in so many lives, both professional and personally as a mentor, teacher, and doctor.”
The national winners of the RACGP awards will be announced at GP17 – the RACGP’s annual conference for general practice – running from 26–28 October 2017.
