Australia’s top general practices announced

The best general practices from across Australia have been identified as finalists in the 2017 Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) General Practice of the Year Award.

The annual award recognises general practices that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of their community.

Vice President of the RACGP Dr Edwin Kruys said this year’s four finalists stood out from other nominees because of their outstanding support of patients through the establishment of welcoming, safe and innovative environments.

“The 2017 RACGP General Practice of the Year finalists each offer patients the highest possible quality of care by ensuring excellence in all aspects of general practice,” Dr Kruys said.

“They provide exemplary service and quality of care and are leaders when it comes to health promotion initiatives.”

Dr Kruys said the finalists were also selected for their determination to improve the education of doctors and other medical staff, particularly through extensive training of GPs and GP registrars within the practice.

“These practices are not only safe and supportive environments for patients,” Dr Kruys said.

“They are leading the way when it comes to the health, wellbeing and education of medical professionals.”

Dr Kruys said all four finalists were a beacon for the value of general practice.

“These practices are doing their utmost to make a visit to the GP a pleasant and easy experience for all patients,” Dr Kruys said.

“They can all inspire other Australian practices to evolve the way they deliver patient care.

“I’m looking forward to finding out which of our finalists will be named 2017 RACGP General Practice of the Year at GP17 in October.”

2017 RACGP General Practice of the Year state finalists:

  • Arkaba Medical Centre, South Australia and Northern Territory
  • Saunders Street Clinic, Tasmania
  • Atticus Health Carrum, Victoria
  • Canning Vale Medical Centre, Western Australia

The national winner of the 2017 RACGP General Practice of the Year will be announced at GP17 - the RACGP’s annual conference for general practice – running from 26–28 October 2017.
