WA’s Dr Rohan Gay named 2016 RACGP General Practice Supervisor of the Year

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is delighted to announce that Dr Rohan Gay of Bayswater Western Australia is the recipient of the 2016 RACGP General Practice Supervisor of the Year Award.

The award recognises the dedication of a GP who has significantly contributed towards the training and mentoring of general practice registrars, leading by example and inspiring those coming through the system to gain a strong appreciation of the general practice profession.
Presenting the award on the eve of the GP16 conference in Perth, RACGP president Dr Frank R Jones congratulated Dr Gay for his outstanding commitment to teaching registrars and medical students.

“Dr Gay is passionate about not falling into the trap of ‘ten minute’ medicine and passes on his experience about the quality management of patient's chronic health to those he trains,” Dr Jones said.

Dr Gay’s philosophy is, “cure sometimes, relieve often and care always!”

“Dr Gay makes himself available and goes above and beyond when it comes to helping his patients and training his staff, including weekly formal training sessions and practical skills training,” Dr Jones said.

Dr Gay is also involved in other general practice programs such as the pilot of My Health Record, WAPHA’s development of a patient-centred medical home trial in WA, and the Home Medicines Review.

“Dr Gay’s passion for the craft of medicine inspires everyone around him, and he is a truly deserving winner of this award,” Dr Jones said.

GP16 – the RACGP’s annual conference for general practice – runs from September 29 - October 1 2016 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Visit the GP16 website for more information.
