The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is delighted to announce that Dr Chris Hughes from Smithton Tasmania is the recipient of the 2016 RACGP General Practice Registrar of the Year Award.
The award recognises the strong commitment made by a general practice registrar to learning, the general practice profession and provision of high-quality patient care.
Presenting the award on the eve of the GP16 conference in Melbourne, RACGP president Dr Frank R Jones congratulated Dr Hughes for his dedication and commitment to rural and regional general practice.
“Dr Hughes is regarded as a thorough and excellent GP by local hospital specialists as well as being an excellent teacher of medical students and registrars,” Dr Jones said.
“He involves himself with all available supervisor training and lives in the local community where he gives service to the community in a voluntary capacity.”
Dr Hughes graduated from UTAS and trained in Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory before coming to Tasmania and completing his FRACGP on the northwest coast.
He is currently completing the RACGP Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP). Dr Hughes is a GP co-supervisor with GPTT as well as a clinical lecturer with the rural clinical school.
