South Australian general practitioner Associate Professor John Litt is the outstanding recipient of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ (RACGP) most prestigious honour for 2016, the Rose-Hunt Award.
The Rose-Hunt Award is presented to an RACGP fellow or member who has rendered exemplary service in the promotion of the objectives of the RACGP.
Presenting the award on the eve of the RACGP’s GP16 conference in Perth, RACGP president Dr Frank R Jones acknowledged Assoc Prof Litt’s extraordinary contribution to the profession and the RACGP.
“I am absolutely delighted to see Dr Litt presented with the Rose-Hunt Award this afternoon as his influence on our profession has been immense,” said Dr Jones.
“John was responsible for the development of the Green Book, first published in 1996, which offers general practice a framework and a range of effective strategies to improve the delivery of prevention activities,” he said.
Since 2000, Assoc Prof Litt has served as Deputy Chair of the RACGP Expert Committee –Quality Care which saw him working on a guidelines and position statements for the Red Book with its focus on preventative activities in general practice.
“John understands the deep need for and value of general practice research, and it is fitting that in the year of his retirement, he has received our most prestigious award,” Dr Jones said.
