The search is on for the next President of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), with nominations for the 2016 – 2018 term opening today.
The current terms for the positions of RACGP President, Censor-in-Chief and Registrar Representative conclude at the close of the annual general meeting (AGM) on 30 September 2016.
The role of RACGP President is a prestigious position, responsible for leading the peak body for general practice in Australia and its 32,000 members.
The elected candidate will take over the role from current RACGP President Dr Frank R Jones, whose two-year term comes to an end in September.
‘The President is one of the key spokespeople for the RACGP and has the crucial role of fostering collaboration between RACGP members in line with the best strategic interests of the organisation, ensuring the strategic aims, objectives and views of the RACGP are met,’ Dr Jones said.
‘I encourage all RACGP members to take a strong interest in the election. Now is a critical time for general practice and strong leadership is essential if the profession and our patients’ needs are to be appropriately met.’
The positions of RACGP Registrar Representative and Censor-in-Chief are also open for nomination.
The Censor-in-Chief provides academic leadership to the assessment area and strategic and policy advice to Council on assessment, certification and recertification issues.
The Registrar Representative is responsible for representing the interests of registrars and provides advice to Council on matters relating to registrars and general practice training.
Nominations for the RACGP 2016 Council election are now open and will close Monday 30 May. Nominees will be announced on Tuesday 31 May and voting will open on Friday 10 June.
