The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Foundation is pleased to announce the 2014 recipient of the RACGP/Therapeutic Guidelines Ltd Research Grant, Professor Tania Winzenberg.
The grant, which totals $100,000 in value, is offered to fund projects that focus on the use and implementation of guidelines in general practice for a period of 18 months and is awarded by the RACGP on the recommendation of the RACGP/TGL Research Collaboration Panel.
RACGP Foundation Patron, Professor Peter Mudge, said the grant is a reflection of the pivotal role general practice research plays in improving the health outcomes of all Australians.
“This year’s grant applicants were of an exceptionally high calibre and all should be congratulated for their efforts,” said Prof Mudge.
“The research proposal presented by the successful applicant conveyed the importance of guidelines in primary healthcare and offered positive predictions for increased future adherence in general practice.”.
Professor Winzenberg’s study, Making Guidelines meet the Challenge of Multimorbidity in General Practice: Development of an Evidence-Based approach to Integration of Disease Specific Guidelines to better Manage Multimorbidity, received $80,453 and aims to address the evidence gap surrounding clinical guidelines which take into account the impact of multimorbidity on patient management.
The study will concentrate on designing an evidence-based approach to developing and implementing clinical guidelines for GPs which incorporates the complexities of managing multimorbidity.
Professor Winzenberg’s study will be carried out in collaboration with Associate Professor Kristy Sanderson, Associate Professor Emma Warnecke and Dr Meredith Nash.
