NSW’s Dr Linda Mann awarded 2014 RACGP General Practice Supervisor of the Year

Sydney GP, Dr Linda Mann has been awarded this year’s Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) General Practice Supervisor of the Year Award for her dedication to training the future of the general practice profession.

The General Practice Supervisor of the Year Award recognises the dedication of a GP who has significantly contributed towards the training and mentoring of general practice registrars, leading by example and inspiring those coming through the system to gain a strong appreciation for the general practice profession.

Presenting the award on the eve of the GP14 conference in Adelaide, Dr Liz Marles, RACGP President, congratulated Dr Mann from Your Doctors practice, acknowledging her long standing involvement in GP training.

“Dr Mann is an exceptional role model to the students and registrars she trains and mentors, promoting compassion in general practice and care for the disadvantaged,” said Dr Marles.

“She goes above and beyond the call of duty, dedicating countless additional hours to instill her passion for general practice and provide a quality training experience. She is truly invested in nurturing the future generation of GPs.

“The numerous glowing references provided by former registrars for Dr Mann’s nomination, many of whom are now supervisors themselves, are testament to her commitment and dedication to GP training.

“Dr Mann is an inspiration and a shining example of the transformative effect positive early exposure can have on medical students and registrars and I am delighted her selfless efforts have been recognised with this award.”

Dr Mann’s practice hosts medical students from a number of Universities and she one of only a few approved GP supervisors for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Gynecologists (RANZCOG) certificate in women's health.

Alongside her involvement in general practice training, Dr Mann runs the Young Parents Antenatal Clinic at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) and travels to the Northern Territory community of Borroloola for a month annually to provide general practice services to this remote Indigenous community.

Dr Mann is a staunch advocate for quality care for the disabled and was a speaker at the 2014 National Disability Services NSW State Conference.

Dr Mann said she was very humbled to have been nominated for the award and thrilled to learn she was the successful recipient.

“I gain such a deep satisfaction from working with junior doctors and seeing their passion for patient care grow over time,” said Dr Mann.

“I feel very honoured to receive this award in recognition of what I genuinely love doing.”
