General practice: the game changer to achieve global health outcomes

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) President, Dr Frank Jones endorses general practice and primary healthcare as the game changers in the provision of quality global health outcomes at today’s H20 International Health Summit.

The H20 Summit, held from 13–14 November, presents an opportunity for local and international medical professionals to come together to discuss health issues prior to the G20 Leaders’ Summit being held in Brisbane on 15 November.

RACGP President, Dr Jones will be a panelist at the session, Social Determinants of Health which is being held today at 2.50 pm.

RACGP President, Dr Jones said the panel discussion is an opportunity to discuss the value general practice and primary healthcare plays in overall patient health outcomes.

“GPs are the only medical specialist that offers whole-person, contextual and continuous care,” said Dr Jones.

“GPs look beyond the presenting complaint to include the entire scope of social and physical factors that can dramatically impact on a patient’s health.

“Quality health outcomes are inextricable to the economy, a common theme at the conference.

“It is vital that individuals and their communities are empowered to value their own health occurs alongside a coordinated strategic, policy driven response, if Australia and the world is to see long-term improvements in patient health outcomes.”

Dr Jones will be appearing alongside other panelists, Professor Michael Moore, CEO, Public Health Association of Australia and President-Elect, World Federation of Public Health Associations; Mr Andrew McAuliffe, Senior Director, Policy and Networks Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (Public Sector); and Dr Osahon Enabulele, Past-President, Nigerian Medical Association.
