The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has confirmed its commitment to supporting general practitioner researchers and their contribution to the profession with the launch of the 2014 RACGP Foundation research grants and awards.
The RACGP Foundation’s grants and awards aim to recognise and advance the vital contribution of general practice to the health of all Australians, and are an investment in the RACGP vision – ‘Healthy Profession, Healthy Australia’.
This year, a total of 21 research grants and awards are available to GPs and general practice registrars who are members of the RACGP.
RACGP Foundation Patron, Professor Peter Mudge, said the range of research being conducted by Australia’s GPs is both relevant and impressive.
“Around 83 percent of the Australian population visits their GP at least once a year and continuous research in the profession is vital to ensure the ongoing provision of high quality healthcare to patients.
“The RACGP strongly believes in the value of research in general practice and the Foundation’s research awards acknowledge the vital contribution GPs make to furthering medical advancements within the community,” said Professor Mudge.
The RACGP Foundation supports researching GPs by facilitating networking opportunities with experienced researchers and Quality Improvement and Continuing Professional Development (QI&CPD) points are awarded in recognition of research participation.
“The evidence-based knowledge required by GPs can only be obtained through extensive research involving both GPs and their patients.
“Researching GPs are building the medical evidence-based knowledge that is necessary to deliver the highest quality health outcomes to all Australians, and the RACGP is committed to supporting those efforts,” said Professor Mudge.
