RACGP set to ‘Lead. Inspire.’ at annual conference for general practice

Preparations are well underway for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ (RACGP) annual conference for general practice, GP14, as over 1,000 general practitioners (GPs) and healthcare professionals from across Australia and overseas prepare to converge on the Adelaide Convention Centre from 9 - 11 October 2014.

The overarching theme of GP14, ‘Lead. Inspire.’ highlights the vital role of GPs as leaders in the primary healthcare setting. GPs are at the forefront of healthcare in Australia and are the first point of call for patients dealing with a multitude of complex medical conditions.

RACGP President, Dr Liz Marles said the RACGP’s annual conference for general practice is a calendar highlight for GPs Australia-wide and provides a unique opportunity for the profession to come together to network and share expertise.

“Last year’s conference in Darwin was nothing short of world class and this year, the RACGP has gone above and beyond to ensure our participants can enjoy a stimulating program featuring inspirational keynote speakers and educational activities,” said Dr Marles

“The theme Lead. Inspire. is very timely. As the general practice profession faces a number of challenges, GP14 offers an opportunity for the profession to come together to foster collegiality and advocate for the advancement of the profession and the health and wellbeing of its patients.

Dr Marles said the GP14 program will investigate a range of topics such as how the profession can work together more effectively to ensure all Australians have access to high quality GP-coordinated primary care.

“It will also explore how GPs can better assist patients to make healthy lifestyle choices and utilise innovative technologies to ensure the best health outcomes for GPs, their patients and their communities,” said Dr Marles.

“The RACGP’s social program is always a highlight of the conference and GP14 is set to host a wide range of networking opportunities for all attendees, including a new event for new Fellows and registrars to celebrate their achievements.

“A must see for all delegates at GP14 will be the exhibition hall which will feature over 120 organisations ranging from specialists in recruitment, education, medical equipment, nutrition, publications, computer software, government associations and much more,” said Dr Marles.

GP14 is a perfect opportunity for GPs to fulfill their Quality Improvement and Continuing Professional Development (QI&CPD) requirements with an exciting program of active learning modules, workshops and CPR courses on offer.

Delegates wishing to take opportunity of early bird registration prices must do so before 8 August 2014. The RACGP looks forward to building on previous year’s successes, bringing the profession together to build on its strengths and ‘Lead. Inspire.’
