The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is pleased to be reaccredited as a specialist medical college by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) until December 2019.
Accreditation allows the RACGP to offer a comprehensive training program that leads to fellowship of the RACGP (FRACGP) and lifelong learning opportunities through its Quality Improvement and Continuous Professional Development (QI&CPD).
The 6-year accreditation further endorses the high standard of education offered by the RACGP and its eminence amongst international and local medical colleges.
RACGP President, Dr Liz Marles, said the accreditation granted by the AMC is testament to the RACGP’s ongoing commitment to delivering high quality education and training.
“The RACGP education program ensures Australian GPs are in a position to provide the best possible care for patients at a standard deserved and expected by the community.
“Its success is attributable to the central role of general practitioners in its design, development and ongoing review. It is developed by GPs, for GPs,” said Dr Marles.
Accreditation was obtained following a comprehensive review of all aspects of general practice training and assessment for registrars and the QI&CPD of general practitioners (GPs) by AMC Directors.
The rigorous AMC accreditation process involves validation that standards are met and a peer review component to ensure the high standards of medical education are upheld.
Accreditation is a legislative requirement for all specialist medical colleges providing education to Australian medical professionals.
