RACGP places its future governance in the hands of members

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ (RACGP) is placing its future governance in the hands of members, with the launch of the RACGP Governance Review portal.

The Governance Review portal will assist RACGP members in shaping the RACGP’s governance. Members can become involved by registering for face-to-face and webinar workshops, submitting an opinion online, accessing Governance Review and RACGP resources, and keeping up to date with the latest Governance Review news via this portal.

RACGP President, Dr Frank R Jones, said the RACGP’s Governance Review aims to generate greater member involvement and engagement in shaping the future governance of our RACGP.

“There is a variety of ways RACGP members can become involved in the Governance Review and I encourage all members to take up this opportunity and help shape the future of the RACGP governance,” said Dr Jones.

“It is only through continued active member involvement that the RACGP can strengthen its leadership position as the peak representative body for general practice in Australia.”

The focus of the Governance Review is on promoting collegiality, transparency and accountability and aims to achieve:

  • meaningful and effective future member and community engagement
  • greater capacity for member input and involvement
  • a modern, robust, efficient and flexible RACGP governance structure feted as an exemplar of best practice within the not for profit and health sectors, involving Council, the Faculties, other advisory committees and all members.

“The Governance Review is more than a commitment to act responsibly,” said Dr Jones.

“The evolution of a strong, collegiate and robust RACGP governance model will deliver a future RACGP that best supports its members, ultimately benefiting primary healthcare.”

RACGP members are also encouraged to join the conversation on Twitter using #ourRACGP.

The Governance Review portal is accessible via the RACGP website. Members are required to login to unlock the full suite of Governance Review resources and information.
