The final countdown – less than a month to GP13!

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is abuzz with excitement as final preparations take place to ensure this year’s GP13 conference, held in Darwin on 17–19 October, is the most extensive to date.

This year’s theme is ‘Individual. Family. Community.’ and will focus on the streams of Dermatology, Clinical skills across General Practice, Musculoskeletal medicine, Pain management and chronic conditions, Education and training and Business in practice.

Dr Liz Marles, RACGP President, said GP13 is the optimal opportunity for delegates to complete remaining Quality Improvement and Continuous Professional Development (QI&CPD) criteria.

“GP13 is the perfect end of 2011–13 triennium event, offering delegates the opportunity to earn a total of 180 QI&CPD points across the course of the three day event.

“Pre and post-conference active learning modules (ALMs) have nearly all sold out, however there is still a limited number of places available at GP Clinical Update and Clinical Emergency Management Program workshops.

“Never before has the RACGP seen such a sellout rate like we have at GP13,” said Dr Marles.

An array of local and international guest speakers will present their areas of general practice expertise across various sessions throughout GP13, including Dr Jeff McMullen AM, Journalist, Author and Film-maker (Four Corners and Sixty Minutes), and Dr Theresa Maresca (Mohawk Tribe, Kahnawake Band).

Dr Marles said, the social program at GP13 offers delegates a valuable opportunity to network amongst colleagues.

“Learning in general practice doesn’t just come from attending education events; it also comes from learning from our peers and from their success and failures,” said Dr Marles.

Performing at GP13 are world class artists, Luke Kennedy, former member of the Ten Tenors and runner up from The Voiceand multi award winning country musician, Adam Brand.

“General practitioners are some of the hardest working medical specialists and it is equally important that they too get to kick up their feet and have some fun,” said Dr Marles.

With less than one month until the conference commences, interested delegates are encouraged to register their attendance by visiting www.gpconference.com.au/registration. RACGP members can save up to $100 on registration prices.

Interested delegates are also reminded that flights to Darwin are filling up quickly with limited time remaining to take advantage of the 15% discount offered by Qantas for GP13 participants.
