Central Medical Group awarded 2013 RACGP Victoria General Practice of the Year

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has announced Central Medical Group as the winner of the 2013 RACGP Victoria General Practice of the Year Award.

The RACGP General Practice of the Year Award is designed to recognise practices for their approach to patients’ health and wellbeing. The award criteria takes into account a number of factors including the services on offer to patients, the health promotion initiatives in place, the provision of high quality care and the practice’s involvement in general practice teaching.

Central Medical Group, located in regional town of Wodonga, 300 kms north-east of Melbourne, was selected as the winning recipient based on the clinic’s ongoing dedication to delivering high quality primary health services to the community.

Associate Professor Morton Rawlin, Chair of the RACGP Victoria Faculty, congratulated the team on winning the award and acknowledged its long standing and exemplary positive patient and registrar feedback.

“Central Medical Group is a highly regarded general practice and for many years has been striving to identify new ways to effectively deliver services to patients.

“I commend all GPs and practice staff at Central Medical Group for their ongoing dedication to providing excellent care to the community for over 20 years,” A/Prof Rawlin said.

Central Medical Group consists of two practices and has been offering quality, comprehensive primary healthcare to the Albury/Wodonga region since 1987. The main practice is located in central Wodonga and the second, a purpose built facility in front of the Yackandandah Health Service.

Offering a complete range of medical services, Central Medical Group specialises in complex medical care with a focus on the provision of utilising a multidisciplinary team based approach to improve patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing. In addition to standard medical care, the team offers a range of specialty services, including obstetrics, women’s and men’s health clinics, skin check clinics, counseling and mental health, adolescent health, paediatrics, minor surgery, aged care and regular visits to residential care facilities.

The practice offers online appointments and has recently introduced a smartphone app to provide an even more flexible approach to appointment making. Central Medical Group also actively utilises its Facebook page to share preventive health information and updates on health-related community events.

Central Medical Group is a highly sought after training facility and, over the last 15 years, has been involved in the training of more than 40 registrars.

Accepting the award on behalf of the team, Dr Joanne Mountford who is a general practitioner at Central Medical Group, said she was extremely proud of the team’s achievement.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition of our ongoing commitment to the provision of quality medical care and training to the Albury/Wodonga region. We would like to thank all of our staff for their dedication and enthusiasm and also our patients for their ongoing support,” she said.
