Meet our IMiA21 keynote speakers
In 2021, the fifth International Medicine in Addiction Conference (IMiA21) will be delivered virtually 26–28 February.
This year’s theme, ‘Connecting the disconnected’, acknowledges that doctors work with patients and communities who use substances that can cause complex issues, disconnection and marginalisation, and need to respond to people’s unique situations and issues.
Register for the conference and hear from international keynote speakers, who will be featured across the three-day program.
DAY ONE
Keynote speaker: Professor Sam Chamberlain
Professor of Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Southampton
Topic: Behavioural addictions
DAY TWO
Keynote speaker: Professor Owen Bowden-Jones
Consultant in Addiction Psychiatry at the CNWL Club Drug Clinic, London, and an Honorary Professor at University College London
Topic: Club drug and novel psychoactive substances
DAY THREE
Keynote speaker: Professor Shelly Greenfield
Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the Kristine M. Trustey Endowed Chair of Psychiatry at McLean Hospital, where she also serves as the Chief Academic Officer

Active ingredient prescribing mandatory from February
From 1 February 2021, you will be required to list a medicine’s active ingredients for all Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Repatriation PBS (RPBS) prescriptions. There are some exceptions, including hand-written prescriptions, paper charts in residential aged care facilities, and medicines with four or more active ingredients. Neither your clinical decision-making or patient choice is affected by these changes.
Clinical software has been updated and will automatically prescribe by active ingredient (and you can still include brand name if clinically appropriate). Ensure your practice implements up-to-date and compliant software to support this transition.
