New member resource: Medicare Benefits Schedule online tool

We’re here to support you through every stage of your general practice journey by developing guidelines, tools and resources that can assist in daily practice.

We’ve developed an interactive MBS online tool that allows you to develop and print a fee list with the MBS items you use in your practice.

We’ll monitor usage of the tool and continue to make improvements based on your feedback. And we’ll continue to alert you to relevant and major changes to the MBS via our website and In Practice.

Read more about the tool in newsGP

Make sure you also check out some of our other resources designed to help you manage and enhance the business side of your practice, including our General Practice Business Toolkit and billing calculator to help you consider how practice billing affects your income.

Communicating between medical and mental health professionals

The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) identified a need for practical guidelines on effective communication to support mental health professionals. The Practice guide: Communication between medical and mental health professionals outlines best practice principles for communication among health professionals, with the aim of improving communication, collaboration and, ultimately, patient outcomes.

The guide includes a summary on referral and reporting obligations under the Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists and General Practitioners through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access) initiative. This also includes information on the obligations for the referrer and service provider.

Visit the GPMHC website to access a list of GP resources, guides and fact sheets on various topics relating to primary mental healthcare.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Plan

The Department of Health is leading the development of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework and Implementation Plan 2021–2031 (Workforce Plan), and a draft is now available based on 12-months of national consultation.

We’re seeking your advice about the draft Workforce Plan and invite you to take this survey to share your views.

You’re welcome to contact us at aboriginalhealth@racgp.org.au if you’d like some more information or have any questions.
