Holistic assessment, diagnosis and management of knee and hip osteoarthritis

The Guideline for the management of knee and hip osteoarthritis provides recommendations from up-to-date evidence to assist GPs in managing patients with osteoarthritis.

The guideline includes a two-page algorithm to summarise the assessment and diagnosis of knee and hip osteoarthritis, and recommendations for managing the conditions. The algorithm also provides links for detailed services and prescribing information.

The algorithm can be found as Appendix 1 of the guidelines and is now available for direct download on the RACGP website.

Patient access to consumer medicines information

Consumer medicines information (CMI) documents help to ensure safe and effective use of medicines. RACGP members are reminded to advise patients on the availability of this information.

CMIs contain information on the safe and effective use of a prescription or specified over-the-counter medicine.

CMIs are available to GPs through a number of channels, including MIMS online, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) website, via the MedSearch app, or by phoning NPS MedicineWise on 1300 633 424.

Visit the TGA website to search for CMIs and product information.
