Call for RACGP Expert Committee members

The RACGP is calling for member nominations for the RACGP Expert Committees (RECs).

The RECs contribute expertise in specific areas to the development of RACGP position statements, submissions, guidelines, resources and tools aimed at supporting the general practice profession. They play a critical role in providing advice and expertise to RACGP Council and management.

There are seven RECs:

  • Health Economics
  • Pre Fellowship Education
  • Post Fellowship Education
  • Quality Care
  • Research
  • Standards for General Practices
  • Technology and Innovation

Interested members can download the nomination form from the RACGP website and send it with a current CV to memberhr@racgp.org.au. RACGP Fellows who are financial members as at 1 July 2017 are eligible to apply.

Nominations close at 5.00pm AEST 11 May 2018, and the REC Chairs and Committee members will be announced in August.

The eHealth and Practice Systems and GP Advocacy and Funding expert committees terms will conclude at the RACGP’s annual conference, GP18 in October. From October the Health Economics and Technology and Innovation expert committees will commence. Please view the Terms of Reference for further information.

Visit the RACGP website for the REC Terms of Reference or email memberhr@racgp.org.au for more information.

RACGP Awards 2018

The RACGP encourages members to nominate their peers for the 2018 RACGP awards. The awards are an opportunity to recognise the achievements of GPs working towards a healthier Australia through general practice.

National winners will be announced at GP18, the RACGP conference held on the Gold Coast in October.

Nominations close at 5.00 pm AEST on Friday 18 May.

Visit the RACGP website to view the full breadth of award categories and download a nomination form.

In Practice Poll

Medical clearances

Patients often request medical clearance from their GP to participate in various health-related programs. For example, a patient’s gym may ask them to seek GP clearance before they can participate in a fitness program. GPs are often expected to provide clearance with very little information about what the program involves or the risks of participation for the patient. Some members have sought advice from the RACGP regarding the provision of medical clearance for patients and the legal obligations or consequences of providing medical clearances to participate in programs.

We would like to hear from you about how comfortable you are responding to requests of this nature from your patients. Your feedback will help us determine how we can assist GPs in these situations.
