Development Notice: Recognition of Prior Learning for FARGP transition to FRACGP-RG Guidance Document

Monday 16 May 2022

This notice is to advise that the RACGP has developed a guidance document detailing the principles and processes for transitioning from the FARGP qualification to the newly developed Fellowship of the RACGP Rural Generalist (FARGP-RG) qualification.

The new Recognition of Prior Learning for Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) transition to Fellowship of the RACGP Rural Generalist (FRACGP-RG) Guidance Document comes into effect immediately.

Rationale for the document

The RACGP is phasing out the current FARGP qualification and is replacing it with the RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship (FRACGP-RG) from 1 July 2022.

This guidance document applies to medical practitioners who have commenced their training but have yet to satisfactorily complete all components of the FARGP and practicing GPs who have been admitted to Fellowship of the RACGP and FARGP. This document details how these medical practitioners can apply for the new RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship through recognition of prior learning.

Implications of the document

This document provides stakeholders with:

  • The principles and processes for transitioning from FARGP to the new Rural Generalist Fellowship qualification, and

The processes for applying for Recognition of Prior Learning for FARGP GPiT and GPs, including  the context-specific evidence applicants are required to provide.

Where can I view the documents?

The new guidance document can be accessed via the Fellowship Pathways Policy Framework.
