Policy Update Notice – Fellowship Exam Attempts Policy

Monday 9 May 2022

This notice is to advise that the RACGP has reviewed its policy on Fellowship Examination attempts.

The new Fellowship Examination Attempts Policy replace the previous version and will come into effect immediately.

The policy has been reviewed to clarify the RACGP’s position on a matter surrounding a candidate’s Fellowship Examination attempts. The change is summarised in the table below.

Fellowship Examination Attempts Policy
Change Rationale Implication

We have updated clause 3.2.iii to clarify the duration of automatic suspension of candidacy should a candidate join an RACGP-approved program.

Previously, it was unclear exactly when exam candidacy was suspended until dependent on the RACGP-approved program a medical practitioner joins.

For programs the Vocational Training Pathway, the RACGP will suspend candidacy until meeting exam eligibility requirements of the Vocational Training Pathway a per the Vocational Training Pathway - Examination Eligibility Policy

For the Practice Experience Pathway – Standard Stream (PEP Standard), the RACGP will suspend candidacy until the participant satisfactorily completes the educational component of the PEP Standard as per the Practice Experience Program – Standard Stream Satisfactory Completion Framework Guidance Document

Candidates can now clearly understand when their candidacy will be suspended dependent on the RACGP-approved program they are joining.

When will the policy come into effect?

The policy will come into effect on 9th May 2022.
