Notice of RACGP policy update

This notice is to advise that the RACGP has updated its assessment of recency and comparability assessment policies for the Practice Experience Program (PEP) Specialist Stream. The updated Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream Assessment of Recency Policy, Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream Comparability Assessment Policy and A guide to completing the PEP Specialist Stream Comparability Assessment come into immediate effect, superseding the previous corresponding policies as of today, 13 September 2021.

What has changed?

Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream Assessment of Recency Policy

Change

Rationale

Implications

The recency definition has been amended.

This change was made to clarify that the RACGP has a definition of recency that may differ from other definitions of recency in the sector, specifically the Medical Board of Australia’s recency of practice standards.

Applicants are clear that the RACGP’s definition of clinical recency differs from that of the Medical Board of Australia’s and are clear how the RACGP assesses recency.

Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream Comparability Assessment Policy

Change

Rationale

Implications

The amendment of the scope to reflect that the RACGP does not facilitate the assessment of SIMG’s in a limited scope of practice or who wish to enter the Medical Board of Australia's Specialist Pathway – Area of Need.

The PEP – Specialist is a pathway to Fellowship and thus specialist recognition. This policy does not cover comparability assessment for reasons other than for entry to the PEP – Specialist pathway.

Applicants are clear that they cannot apply for an assessment under this policy if they are a SIMG with a limited scope of practice or wish to enter the Medical Board of Australia’s Specialist Pathway – Area of Need.
