2. Policy declaration

Interested parties who contend an incorrect decision has been made by the RACGP in relation to selection into the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program may submit a request for review of that decision.

3. Background

3.1 Objectives

The objectives of this policy are to describe:

a. how requests for review will be handled by the RACGP.

b. the process of the request for review of a decision.

3.2 Scope

3.2.1 This policy applies to candidates for the AGPT Program who contend that an incorrect decision has been made or an incorrect process applied concerning their progression through the selection process.

3.2.2 This policy applies to the AGPT Program Candidate Assessment Applied Knowledge Test (CAAKT) and the Regional Training Organisation (RTO) offer.

3.3 Matters out of scope of this policy

This policy does not apply to:

a. the initial assessment of eligibility for the AGPT Program as determined by the Department of Health (DoH).

b. decisions made under this policy.

4. Definitions

a. Candidate means a medical practitioner who has applied for selection into the RACGP Vocational Training Pathway and has progressed to participation in the RACGP selection process.

5. Review process

5.1 Candidates may apply to the RACGP in writing to have a decision reviewed. This process will carry a fee of $500.

5.2 The RACGP will review the application to determine if it has grounds for review.

5.3 If grounds are found, the RACGP will send the application to the original decision makers for review, and will notify the applicant of the subsequent decision.

5.4 The following decisions may be reviewed under this policy:

a. Decisions connected to the CAAKT process;

b. Decisions connected to the RTO interview process.

5.5 Grounds for review

5.5.1 Candidates have the onus of proof to establish the ground(s) for a review.

5.5.2 A review may be made on one or more of the following grounds:

a. the original decision was inconsistent with the RACGP Selection for Entry into the AGPT Program policy.

b. provided information was not appropriately considered at the time of the original decision.

5.5.3 In cases where the original decision is amended or overturned the applicant will be reimbursed the full review fee.
