A simpler more cost effective Provider Framework to support validated, flexible and innovative CPD education
Overview
The RACGP has undergone a review of its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program to strengthen the quality and rigour of CPD education for GPs, and to create a more streamlined and simplified program. The Value Proposition summarises the introduced changes and benefits.
Changes to activity categories
In the CPD 2020–22 triennium there are two types of education activities that can be developed by providers. The difference lies in the depth of learning offered:
- CPD Accredited Activity offers deep learning that extends knowledge to affect change – learning that introduces new knowledge or a new skill. In the new triennium these activities will be adjudicated by the RACGP. Formerly known as Category 1, these activities will continue to be allocated 40 CPD points.
- CPD Activity offers reinforcement or updating of existing knowledge or skill. Formerly known as Category 2, these activities are self-approved by the provider. The allocation of two points per hour up to a maximum of 30 CPD points per activity will continue.
Current providers
Commencing with the 2020–22 triennium, current CPD education providers will need to enter into a CPD Education Provider Agreement that will outline the conditions and responsibilities of the parties in the development and delivery of CPD education activities for the 2020–22 triennium.
New providers
The New Provider CPD Applications for the RACGP CPD Program 2020-2022 triennium are now closed.
To become a potential provider with the RACGP CPD Program for the new triennium 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025, please contact your relevant state/territory office to go on our waiting list.
Annual fees
All providers will incur an annual fee. This includes attendance at EAR training, access to refresher training, access to the provider dashboard, and resources and inclusion in the RACGP’s advertisement of activities. The fee is based on the provider’s annual activity (based on GP completions) from the 2017–19 triennium or, for new providers, on anticipated activity, and is tiered as follows (Table 1).
