The prevalence of diabetes increased 2.8-fold between 2000 and 2020. Type 2 diabetes is comparatively more prevalent in lower than higher socioeconomic groups and in people living in remote and very remote areas than in those living in urban areas. The prevalence of diabetes increases with age, and is 1.3-fold more common in men than in women. Type 2 diabetes occurs in 11.8% of general practice encounters and 5.5% of patients in general practice.

This activity is the first in a series of three online modules designed to equip GPs with the knowledge and skills required to effectively diagnose type 2 diabetes and to implement current best-practice management processes. This module is available within the Type 2 Diabetes Management in General Practice learning pathway but may be completed individually for CPD hours.

This advanced course aims to educate GPs on the use of newer glucose monitoring technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and connected insulin pens and to provide the latest updates on Glucose Pattern Insights (GPI) so that you can offer a more personalised and effective T2D management to your patients. You’ll also be provided an opportunity to experience some of the technology first-hand, yourself through the application of a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor.
