An RACGP CPD solution to stay clinically up to date and support your annual CPD

Last updated 18 March 2026

The RACGP’s First do no harm: A guide to choosing wisely in general practice is a clinical resource that supports safe, evidence-based prescribing and deprescribing in general practice.

This resource can support GPs to critically evaluate the necessity, benefits, and potential harms of treatments, particularly in patients with complex needs or those on multiple medications. The initiative supports shared decision-making, promotes regular medication reviews, and highlights the need to minimize unnecessary or potentially harmful interventions—ensuring that patient care remains centred on improving health outcomes while avoiding avoidable harm.

The activities in this CPD solution are designed to support thoughtful, patient-centred decision-making and clinical updates that minimise harm and optimise outcomes. You can complete one, several, or all activities in any order while meeting your annual CPD requirements. The CPD activities contained in this CPD solution are included in your RACGP membership.

CPD solution activities:

Step 1 – Familiarise yourself with the structure and design of First do no harm resources (0.5 EA)

First do no harm: A guide to choosing wisely in general practice is an evidence-based, online resource that supports GPs in reducing low-value care and preventing patient harm. It provides up-to-date information on overused tests, over diagnosed conditions, and interventions lacking strong evidence. Designed to support shared decision-making, it helps empower patients through informed, balanced health discussions.

Use the navigation menu on the left side and explore the GP resources, patient resources and associated topics. You will see that for every topics there is a corresponding GP and patient resource.

The aim of this activity is for you to explore these resources, so you get a good feel for how they’re designed and how you can use them as part of your clinical work.

When in myCPD Home, go to the Log tab and select the measuring outcomes tool from the drop-down menu.

When you’re in the measuring outcomes tool, you will be asked the following questions:

Describe an improvement or change you have implemented in your practice and what prompted you to make the change.

What impact or outcome are you expecting as a result of the change/s you’ve implemented? If you have already observed an impact or outcome, please describe this below.

How do you plan to monitor and/or evaluate the effectiveness of these changes?

You will also be asked to upload evidence (de-identified) where you can, such as you notes, reflections, evaluation of your patient records

The measuring outcomes tool will direct you to login to myCPD Home (which is accessed via the RACGP website) as the tool is not available in myCPD app.
