Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills for General Practice

Online via gplearning

This online course provides GPs with foundational CBT skills and is ideal for GPs who wish to include CBT in their clinical practice. Whilst aimed at rural GPs, it will be a useful resource for any GP interested in gaining skills in psychotherapy.

The training comprises six interactive learning modules; each taking one hour to complete and can be completed at your own pace.

The course focuses on six areas:
  1. Introduction to CBT
  2. Assessment, formulation and treatment planning
  3. CBT in action: focus on depression
  4. CBT in action: focus on anxiety
  5. Challenges in CBT
  6. Additional considerations

GPMHSC FPS CPD approved. CPD Accredited Activity (40 points).

FPS CPD Case-Based Discussions

This Focussed Psychological Strategies CPD course has been designed to support GPs in implementing FPS with patients, evaluating their practice, and further developing their skills. It consists of a series of thought-provoking, small group case-based discussion sessions facilitated by a GP with specialist experience in mental health. Each participant will present a case and through these case discussions participants will extend their FPS skills by exploring the intervention methods they currently use, critically reviewing challenging cases, and developing strategies for addressing barriers to achieving best practice.

This activity is offered via the Zoom platform and comprises of four two-hour case-based discussion sessions from 5:30-7:30pm (VIC/NSW time) in the weeks of 02/05, 16/05, 30/05 and 13/06.

Cost: $295 for RACGP members and $345 for non-members.

This is a CPD accredited activity (eligible for 40 points) and has GPMHSC accreditation for FPS CPD.

Emergency Medicine for Rural GPs Live Workshop - Bathurst

The Emergency Medicine for Rural GPs Workshop aims to enhance patient safety and GP self-care by providing rural GPs with the opportunity to engage in a structured Accredited Activity to discuss and simulate scenarios reflecting the many challenges rural GPs face when living and working in rural and remote communities. There will be a strong emphasis on emergency medicine situations, doctor self-care, coordinating and communicating with other healthcare professionals, stress management and debriefing. All the scenario cases to be included in this workshop have been written in partnership with Health Education and Training Institute (HETI).

This accredited activity will be 40 CPD points - pending approval

Online Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training

The RACGP Rural Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) package provides GPs with essential training to enable them to become a GP provider of Foccussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) and provide CBT-derived FPS conselling to patients in their practice.

This flexible, innovative training package is made up of four Modules and uses a combination of technology, peer learning groups and locally available resources to provide GPs with access to FPS skills training whist remaining in their practice and community.

Please note: Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training (MHST) is a prerequisite for enrolment in the FPS ST training package and must have been completed after 1 January 2017.

The training package has GPMHSC accreditation and on completion GPs can gain FPS provider registration with Medicare to access FPS related MBS numbers 2721, 2723, 2725 and 2727.

Introduction To Point-of-care Ultrasound - Darwin, NT

The 'Introduction to point-of-care ultrasound for GPs' workshop is designed to support rural GPs to increase their understanding of the applications of point-of-care ultrasound in the diagnostic process. The training is delivered by rural GPs, emergency physicians and sonographers who are experienced in using ultrasound in their practice environment.

This full-day workshop will give participants the opportunity to identify practical applications of ultrasound technology in general practice settings and gain hands-on experience in the use of point of care ultrasound devices under the guidance of experts.

The workshop is a CPD Accredited Activity under the RACGP CPD Program (eligible for 40 points) and is approved for all categories of the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

The workshop runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm and will be offered to RACGP members at $695 (incl. GST) and to non-members for $995 (incl. GST). Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Emergency Medicine for Rural GPs - Online

Designed and facilitated by experienced rural GPs and emergency specialists, the Emergency Medicine for Rural GPs workshop aims to enhance rural emergency medicine skills using case scenarios that reflect the challenges faced when living and working in rural and remote communities.

This online workshop involves four small-group interactive case scenario discussions as well as an exploration of the critical considerations involved in managing rural emergency cases, packaging patients for retrieval, communicating effectively with retrieval teams, debriefing and self-care. All the scenarios included in the workshop are written by experienced rural GPs from actual cases.
