Dr. D K D MATHEW
PRESIDENT COLLEGE OF GENERAL PRACTITIONERS
OF SRI LANKA.
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Family doctors are unique. The knowledge about individuals, families, and communities, gained through years of continuing care put family physicians in the leading role of patient centred care. In a time of rising epidemic of NCDs with aging populations and global economic crisis, the value of primary care has become more than ever in providing appropriate care in a sustainable and a cost-effective way. Apart from being clinicians, family physicians act as leaders and educators.
The WONCA SAR 2024 is aiming to strengthen the family physician's performance in the region through meticulously planned scientific programme. Plenaries, guest lectures, symposia, sharing of good practices, research findings will update the knowledge and practice and will inspire all to become better clinicians. More than that, in keeping with our theme "Celebrating family medicine-Nurturing our values across the region", we expect everyone to be caring practitioners, better human beings. I firmly believe that this Congress will provide invaluable opportunities to facilitate high quality professional development. I look forward to welcoming all of you in Sri Lanka for a rewarding and enjoyable experience!
