Frequently asked questions

To join the RACGP, use our membership selector and follow the steps.

If you’re a GP that holds valid medical registration and lives overseas for the majority of the financial year, you’re eligible for an overseas membership.

If you’re an overseas medical practitioner living in Australia but haven’t yet obtained medical registration, you’re eligible for an IMG membership.

If you’re studying or in a training program and working towards a career in general practice, you’re eligible for a student or IMG membership.

  • We recommend you include the following with your membership application.
  • A copy of your primary medical degree (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • Your medical registration number
  • A copy of your current overseas medical registration certificate/card (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • A letter of good standing from the registering body (officially translated into English, if necessary) – this is an essential requirement if the overseas medical registration was issued more than two years ago

Overseas

We recommend you include the following with your membership application.
  • A copy of your international medical registration certificate/card (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • Verification of your alliance college membership
  • A letter of good standing from the registering body (officially translated into English, if necessary) – this is an essential requirement if the overseas medical registration was issued more than two years ago

Yes, you can rejoin the RACGP at any time. Just contact our Member Services Team at membership@racgp.org.au

You can resign your membership, but you’ll need to discuss your continuing professional development (CPD) requirements with us if you have CPD obligations.

We can't put your membership on hold, but we can offer additional time to pay your fees, such as an instalment plan.
