The RACGP does not have a cap on the number for short-term training positions. Applications for short-term training positions will be supported by the RACGP where applicants meet the MBA’s eligibility criteria, the position is a genuine training position

Applicants and their proposed supervisors should refer to the MBA’s Guidelines: Supervised practice for international medical graduates for details on supervision responsibilities and levels. The RACGP will not support applications for the STTMS pathway where level 4 supervision is proposed. The level of supervision will be determined by Ahpra.

The intended practice must be accredited as a training practice. Training site accreditation is based on the Guide to RACGP training site and supervisor accreditation.

No, copies of documents provided must be certified as true copies of the original documents. Each page of the documentation must be initialled by an authorised witness. Ahpra’s guidelines for certifying documents can be found online at www.ahpra.gov.au/certify.

Yes, a copy of the RACGP’s recommendation to the MBA will be emailed to you.

Any proposal for teaching should form part of the learning plan. Teaching must be appropriate for the level of the international medical graduate and for the learner.

The RACGP will consider all relevant experience as part of a later application for the specialist pathway.

The RACGP will make an assessment within eight calendar weeks of the complete application and application fee being received. Ahpra and other agencies will have their own processing times.

Each site must be a genuine training position as defined by the Medical Board. A genuine training position means that the Australian training position that the applicant has applied for is a training position accredited by an AMC accredited specialist medical college or is a formal structured training position which consists of formal assessment processes and mechanisms for measuring learning outcomes. The training position is not primarily a service position.

Extensions to training time will require you to submit a change in circumstances application to the MBA and include a letter for support from RACGP. The RACGP will not support applications for training beyond 24 months. To extend your training time, you will need to need to complete Change in circumstances documentation and submit to the RACGP for a recommendation to the MBA. Additional fees apply for change in circumstance submissions. Refer to the Fees section for more information.
