Pre-employment Structured Clinical Interview - Assessor technical guide

Managing technical incidents

Managing technical incidents

Here are some examples of common incidents that you may need to manage during the interview.

Incident Management by assessor
Applicant cannot scroll the reading material
  • Assessors can scroll through the document for the applicant. If the issue persists, alert the RACGP staff member by using the ‘Ask for help’ button.
Applicant reading material too small on applicant’s screen
  • Ask applicant to make Zoom full screen or maximise PDF document – they have control.
Applicant disconnection
  • Note the time of the disconnection and alert the RACGP staff member using the ‘Ask for help’ button.
  • If reconnected within 10 minutes, note amount of time lost, resume scenario, and make up the missed time.
  • If the disconnection lasts more than 10 minutes. Stop sharing and alert the RACGP staff member.
Assessor disconnection
  • Note the time of disconnection, check the internet connection and if necessary, use alternative source of internet – for example, hotspot.
  • Attempt to reconnect using Zoom link.
  • If you are unable to reconnect, phone the RACGP staff member (number provided prior to the interview date) to advise of your situation.
  • If reconnected within 10 minutes, note amount of time lost, resume scenario, and make up the missed time.
  • If the disconnection lasts more than 10 minutes, phone the RACGP staff member for further instructions.
Assessor internet connection becomes unstable during the interview
  • Prior to the interview, advise family or office members to avoid downloading or streaming which will slow down your internet speed.
  • If unstable internet persists, switch over to alternative internet connection.
Applicant’s space is interrupted by a person or a noise
  • No adjustment to time as the applicant is responsible for ensuring a quiet and private venue.
  • If there is evidence of an emergency or suspected academic misconduct, pause the interview and phone the RACGP staff member.
Concern about
academic misconduct
  • Where an applicant appears distracted, looking at other resources or is disrupted, the assessor can ask the applicant to show their room with their camera. Note that this will affect the applicant significantly, so exercise caution in making this decision.
  • Alternatively, the assessor can alert the RACGP staff member to observe.
