Do I need to download Zoom?

Yes, for full functionality you must have the Zoom desktop client (application) installed. You can download the latest version of Zoom here.

Do I have to have a webcam for the interview?

Yes, you must have a webcam to participate in the interview and your camera should remain on at all times.

Can I have a virtual background?

You may use the RACGP virtual background, but the use of all other virtual backgrounds is not permitted in the interview.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset?

Yes, if the Bluetooth device is compatible with the device that you’re using. Make sure you test it before the interview

What happens if my internet drops out?

Re-join the interview as quickly as possible when your internet is restored. If the outage is prolonged, please contact the RACGP staff member. We recommend that you have an alternative internet source – for example, mobile phone hotspot.

How do I reset my password?

You will be given a link to log in to your interview, so you will not need a password. However, you should, have a Zoom account. If you have forgotten your Zoom password, reset it prior to your interview by visiting password.

What will I see when I join my Zoom meeting?

If you join prior to your start time you will see a message that you are waiting for the host to start the meeting. If you join at your designated start time, you will arrive in a Zoom waiting room and an RACGP staff member will admit you into the meeting.

Do I need to record the interview?

No, you’re not permitted to record the interview session on Zoom or any other program or device and neither is the applicant.

What Zoom functions will be used during the interview?

Screen sharing and remote control will be used during the interview. As a panel member you will share the scenario materials on screen and give the applicant remote control so they can scroll through the document. You should practise screen sharing and giving / accepting remote control prior to the interview so that you are familiar with the process.

I have a Mac. What do I need to be aware of?

Due to increased security settings, you will need to authorise the Zoom desktop client to use the microphone, camera and remote control. Follow the instructions here.

I have a tablet/Surface Pro, can I use it for the interview?

Surface Pro and tablet devices do not allow scrolling in a document that is being shared on screen. You must use a laptop or a desktop for the interview. We also recommend that you use the largest computer screen you have available to allow clear viewing and sharing of reading material.

I have a Chromebook or a device that runs Chrome OS, can I use it for the interview?

Chromebooks or other devices that run Chrome OS currently do not have the Zoom functionality required for the interview and are therefore not suitable for the interview.
