  2. Start arranging your training site and supervisor
  3. Check your FSP entry point eligibility (standard or advanced entry)
  4. Apply online during the application period
  5. Book and sit the national entry assessment
  6. Receive your offer outcome
  7. Provide details of your nominated accredited training site and supervisor, and apply for a Medicare provider number.

More details on each of these steps can be found in the 2027.1 FSP Application and Program Guide  .

You can also find out more about the program and how to apply at one of our FSP webinars.

The 2027.1 FSP is a 2-2.5 year full-time equivalent (FTE) training program. Duration of training depends on your entry point into the program:

  • Standard entry: 2.5 years FTE
  • Advanced entry: 2 years FTE

Standard entry applies to doctors who meet the minimum FSP eligibility requirements. Advanced entry is an option for doctors who meet these requirements and have general registration and the required paediatric experience.

The FSP journey to fellowship is outlined here. You can also explore what the 2027.1 program offers in more detail through the resource here.

More information about the program can be found in the 2027.1 FSP Application and Program Guide

Examples of what the 2027.1 FSP journey could look like are provided here.

If you’re unsure whether the FSP or Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program best suits your personal, educational and training needs, this factsheet provides information on the features and requirements of both RACGP programs.

FSP training is required to take place in an accredited training sites with accredited supervisors in a Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2-7 location/s.

Planning your training site and supervisor

We recommend you start arranging your training site early as you’ll be required to nominate your accredited training site and supervisor by the FSP offer acceptance deadline.

Explore our list of currently accredited training sites.

Training site and supervisor accreditation

Nominated training site/s and supervisor/s must be accredited to train registrars in comprehensive general practice under the RACGP Standards for general practice training 4th edition.

The training site accreditation process typically takes up to six months to complete. As applicants need to nominate an already accredited training site by the offer acceptance deadline, practices that are not yet accredited may not be able to meet the nomination deadline. While we’ll always do our best to progress applications as quickly as possible, we can’t guarantee that an unaccredited practice will complete the process in time.

If a nominated supervisor works at an accredited training site and is not currently accredited as a supervisor, they are required to submit an EOI form by the close of FSP applications to commence the supervision accreditation process.

Training site and supervision requirements

In addition to being accredited, nominated sites and supervisors must meet the requirements as outline in the 2027.1 FSP Application and Program Guide.

The table below outlines the major changes to the program from the 2027.1 cohort onward.

Please note, we’ve made some updates to this table. This includes:

  1. a change in terminology from foundation level to fundamentals term
  2. updates to advanced entry requirements and the introductory workshop. This includes the removal of the requirement to provide additional evidence of 52 weeks of broad generalist experience in the Australian health care system. This will be assessed through demonstration of holding general registration.
