National roles, GP Training

A/Prof James Brown,
National Director of Training

Adjunct Professor, Dr James Brown is our National Director of Training, providing medical educator leadership for RACGP vocational training pathways.

James is a fellow of both ACRRM and RACGP and Member of the Order of Australia. His research into GP training has been widely published and informed the evolution of GP Training over the past 20 years. James has recently completed a PhD focusing on the GP supervisory relationship.

Dr Paul Dilena,
National Deputy Director of Training 

Dr Paul Dilena was previously the Director of Medical Education and Training at GPEx in South Australia. He commenced working at the RACGP in 2022 initially as the Lead Transition Regional Training Organisation Medical Educator and is now one of two National Deputy Directors of Training.

Paul has 30 years of GP experience in metropolitan and rural South Australia including a year working as a locum in rural Ireland. He completed a Masters of Clinical Education through Flinders University in 2021. He oversees a range of GP training portfolios and the broader program delivery in NSW/ACT, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Dr Vanessa Moran,
National Deputy Director of Training

Vanessa supports RACGP’s regional teams to deliver high-quality general practice training that reflects our national strategy, values, and vision. With a focus on enabling others, she brings energy and clarity to complex areas like IT platforms, wellbeing, and the responsible integration of AI into training.

Passionate about curiosity, fairness, and the practical realities of supporting registrars, supervisors and educators, Vanessa’s work spans training delivery, policy and processes, and the evolution of education models. She is committed to building systems and cultures that are not only effective but also human-centred and future-ready.

Dr Olivia O’Donoghue,
National Director of Training

Dr Olivia O’Donoghue is descendant of the Yankunytjatjara and the Narungga Nations peoples. She is a General Practitioner who gained Fellowship with RACGP in 2012 and has worked in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health in the Northern Territory, across urban and remote footprints. She currently visits Yadu Health in Ceduna. Olivia has extensive Medical and Cultural Educator experience. Olivia works as the lead Medical Educator for the Indigenous GP Trainee Network (IGPTN), supporting and mentoring Indigenous GPs in training and GPs interested in medical education. Olivia was the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Censor for the RACGP Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health from 2020 to 2023 and has now transitioned to be the first National Clinical Head of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Torres Strait Islander Training for the RACGP.  Olivia is a current board director for the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association.

Dr Karin Jodlowski-Tan,
National Clinical Head of Rural Pathways

At RACGP, Dr Jodlowski-Tan started as Rural Clinical Lead in 2020 and then took on additional role as Clinical Lead for the remote clinical exam. In 2021, Karin took on additional National Clinical Lead roles for remediation, accreditation, policy application. Karin is now RACGP’s National Clinical Lead – rural and Acting Regional Director of Training (NT).

Previous roles include Deputy Director of training at RVTS, National Director - GP Education and Wellbeing with Healius, clinical director with Bourke Aboriginal Health Service, consultants at Walgett and Brewarrina AMS, Chair of Education - Australian Medical Acupuncture College. Karin is also currently a consultant with South Coast Women's Aboriginal Health Service (Waminda).

Dr Danielle James,
National Clinical Lead Performance Management

Danielle has been a GP for more than 25 years and a supervisor for over 20 years. She was the RACGP Queensland GP Supervisor of the Year in 2020. Passionate about supporting all GPs, she has previously worked as a medical educator for GPTQ and is now the National Clinical Lead for Performance Management at the RACGP.

Dr Gerard Ingham,
National Clinical Lead Supervisor, Practice and Medical Educator Support

Gerard Ingham is a rural GP and GP supervisor in Katherine, Northern Territory. He has been involved in the supervision of over 100 RACGP and ACRRM registrars. Dr Ingham has also worked as a Medical Educator for 30 years with a focus on the education of GP supervisors.

Sue Hefren,
Chief Member Experience Officer

An accomplished executive leader with nearly a decade of experience in general practice education and training, Sue brings deep expertise in operational excellence, strategic growth, and transformational change. With over 20 years’ experience as a professional coach and mentor, she is a committed advocate for collaborative culture and leadership development. Sue has successfully led large, multidisciplinary teams through complex transitions, delivering sustainable outcomes in dynamic and high-stakes environments.

David Glasson,
Head of RACGP Rural

With a master’s in public health, David held CFO, COO and acting CEO roles with General Practice Education and Training (GPET) in Canberra, over eight years. David then became CEO of Victorian Metropolitan Alliance and subsequently CEO of Eastern Victoria GP Training (EVGPT).

In 2020 David was appointed National Manager for the Remote Area Health Corps, providing health professional placements to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. David joined the RACGP as Regional Training Organisation Transition Manager and is now Head of our rurally focussed teams.

Emma McLeay,
Head of GP Training Operations

Currently Head of GP Training Operations at RACGP, Emma McLeay is passionate about working collaboratively with teams to improve community outcomes and the quality of GP training across Australia. Joining RACGP in 2020 as Transition Manager and RTO Integration Lead, Emma has since also served as South Australian Regional Operations Manager. Prior to her time at RACGP, she built extensive experience at the South Australian Regional Training Organisation (GPEx) and Regional Training Provider Sturt Fleurieu, strengthening her leadership in general practice education and operational management.


Regional roles, GP Training

Dr Catherine Casey
Regional Director of Training (North Eastern NSW)

Dr Catherine Casey is the Regional Director of Training for North-Eastern New South Wales. Catherine is a GP with a passion for comprehensive general practice, having worked in multiple locations across the region, from Newcastle, North Coast, Blue Mountains and Sydney. Catherine’s leadership in medical education and general practice training, stems from her desire to develop great GPs, positively impacting the health of the communities in which they work.

Dr Graham Lee,
Regional Director of Training (South Eastern NSW)

Graham is a Fellow of the RACGP working in Dharug country and has a long-standing interest in medical education. He was previously a medical educator with GP Synergy in several roles, including Director of Pre-vocational Education and Training, Director of Training, and Deputy Director of Education and Training.

As a GP, Graham has enjoyed working in an Aboriginal Medical Service, visiting nursing homes and caring for patients released from jail. He is now working as a GP in travel medicine.

Dr Kerrie Stewart,
Regional Director of Training (Western NSW & ACT)

Dr Amelia Duhs,
Regional Director of Training (QLD) 

Brisbane-based Medical Educator and General Practitioner, Dr Duhs has worked in Medical Education since 2010, primarily with General Practice Training Queensland (GPTQ). Responsible for overseeing the management of all training requirements for registrars with GPTQ, Amelia has continued to undertake clinical teaching visits, facilitate workshops, design education programs, manage registrar transfers and assist in performance management.

Completing a Master’s of Medical Education, focusing on small group learning, Amelia is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, delivering workshops and mentoring for doctors that have had conditions imposed by the State Medical Boards.

Dr Angelina Salamone,
Regional Director of Training (VIC)

As a General Practitioner with over 23 years’ experience (women’s health, travel medicine and occupational health), former Murray City Country Coast (MCCC) Director of Medical Education and Training, Dr Salamone also has a wide-range of roles at the VMA since 2011, including Senior Medical Educator, Accreditation Medical Educator and Deputy Director of Training.  

Examiner for the RACGP since 1997 and more recently a QA examiner, Angelina has held many senior positions within the RACGP, National Manager Educational Services, National Manager Assessment and Education and Development Officer Assessment and Practice Standards. Dr Salamone has also been a Victorian Faculty board member, including the role of Deputy Chair.

Dr Colleen Bradford,
Regional Director of Training (WA & NT) 

Dr Colleen Bradford is a GP who currently works in Mount Lawley, Western Australia. With more than 20 years’ experience as a medical educator, she started her medical education career working for the RACGP in 1998. Her vast experience includes more than 10 years with the military (retiring from active service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel), working in the Solomon Islands, Western Sahara (with the United Nations) and East Timor.

As a GP, Dr Bradford has practiced in Wagga Wagga and the ACT before moving back to Perth in 2006. In 2019 she received the Sam Bada award for medical education from the WA faculty.

Dr Simon Hay, 
Regional Director of Training (SA)

Trained as a GP in central Scotland, Dr Hay has worked in rural, outer-metropolitan and inner-metropolitan areas in South Australia. Since 2013, Simon has worked as a Senior Medical Educator in GP training with a number of organisations in South Australia. Clinically, he enjoys the breadth of general practice, working with a team and forming strong doctor-patient relationships. 

Dr Lisa Clark,
Regional Director of Training (TAS) 

Lisa has worked as a medical educator for the past 10 years, initially as a registrar medical educator with General Practice Training Tasmania overseeing the Prevocational General Practice Placement Program (PGPPP) then post-Fellowship, moving into AGPT delivery.  

Dr Clark has worked in the full scope of Medical Educator activities across the years, as well as providing supervision for AGPT registrars in her clinical practice.  Lisa was the Director of Education & Training at General Practice Training Tasmania prior to moving across into her current role as Regional Director of Training, Tasmania with the RACGP.
