This notice is to advise that the RACGP has updated the PEP SP Participant Handbook – Partially Comparable. The updated handbook will come into immediate effect, superseding the previous version as of Thursday, 28 August 2025.

What has changed?

Continuing professional development

  • CPD quicklog link added

RACGP membership

  • Wording updated to clarify membership renewal date

Training program

  • Wording updated to clarify the ‘start work’ date

Important concepts

  • Detailed information on candidacy removed from this section. Replaced with a link to the section in this handbook on ‘Fellowship exams’

Supervisor

  • Responsibilities updated to include a reference to the work performance report

Medical educator

  • Responsibilities updated to include small group learning activities, webinars and exam support webinars

Induction

  • Updated to align with current practices, removing reference to the online questionnaire being completed prior to the induction

Learning needs assessment

  • Added ‘It’s best to do the induction interview in your clinic to access clinical software for the RCA.’ and ‘The induction interview includes a 30-minute RCA with feedback to inform the learning needs.’

Supervision level

  • Replaced ‘As you progress … the RACGP may recommend to the MBA that your supervision level be changed to a lower or higher level’ with: ‘For information about supervision level, refer to the Ahpra website and the PEP SP Supervision Policy

Program commencement

  • Wording updated to clarify the commencement date

Core modules (mandatory)

  • Updated to align with current practices, including the number of modules and how to access these modules

Small group learning

  • Updated to align with current practices, deleting ‘Attendance will be generally capped at 10’

Work-place based assessments

  • Updated to include the WBA competencies
  • Updated to reflect total number of WBAs to be completed (to align with changes made to case-based discussion section)

Multi-source feedback

  • Updated to align with information provided on CFEP website (number of patients required for Patient Feedback for Individual Doctors survey and number of colleagues to be nominated for Colleague Feedback Evaluation Tool)

To consider in preparation for a mini-CEX

  • Updated to clarify photo ID is necessary and AI transcribing software is not permitted.

Case-based discussions

  • Updated to clarify the requirements for CBDs (on different patients from mini-CEX) and the expected academic standards (All work…must be clearly referenced…)
  • Updated to reflect new delivery model (from group delivery to individual delivery) and number of assessments per assessor (3 assessors, each doing 1 CBD and 1 mini-CEX)

Progression review committee (new section)

  • Added this section with information on the PRC’s role in the substantially comparable stream

Fellowship exams

  • Description of the Key Feature Problem (KFP) updated to align with wording from the Assessments and Examinations Candidate Handbook Part 2
  • Added ‘For more information about the Fellowship exams (candidacy, withdrawing from an exam, suspension of candidacy, etc), refer to the Assessment and Examinations Candidate Handbook and the Fellowship Exams Policy.’

Exam eligibility

  • Added reference to the work performance report as it is one of the requirements

Enrolment in exams

  • Deleted redundant text (information on sitting exams on approved leave) as this is in the leave section

Emergency leave

  • Section deleted as this information is in the policy. Link to the policy (PEP SP Leave Policy) included in the section on ‘Additional leave’.

Leave and the RACGP

  • Wording updated for accuracy (‘ …membership fees will be waived…’ not ‘suspended’)

Involuntary withdrawal

  • Updated to clarify the date to dispute an involuntary withdrawal (changed from ‘…within 20 business days of the date of withdrawal or the date of receiving the notification.’ to ‘…within 20 business days of the date of receiving the notification.’)

Re-entry

Disputes and complaints

  • Sub-section on ‘Disputes’ removed as the program is managed at a national level while disputes are managed regionally. Reconsiderations and appeals sections left as is.
