This notice is to advise that the RACGP has updated the AGPT Training Site and Supervisor Handbook. The handbook will come into immediate effect, superseding the previous corresponding policies as of Monday, 15 December 2025.

Your role in hosting a registrar

  • Added ‘If you are hosting an ADF registrar for the first time in your training site, there are significant contractual differences in the arrangement. Your RACGP local team can provide specialised advice on ADF registrar arrangements.’
  • New section added ‘The registrar’s consulting room and provision of equipment’

Supervision requirements

  • ‘the doctor being above the training cap (eg an ADF registrar)’ added as a bullet point in ‘Supervisor to registrar ratios’
  • Wording updated in ‘Day-to-day supervision requirements’ for clarity and accuracy

Placement process and employment procedures

  • ‘Conflict of Interest Guidance’ removed from ‘Conflict of interest’ section and replaced with a link to the Placement Policy
  • Added ‘ADF registrars are permitted to approach training sites to discuss placements ahead of the placement process as they require permission from their service to apply for a civilian placement.’ to ‘Employing a registrar’ section with a link to the ADF Guide added
  • Added a link to Preparing for your registrar – a practice manager’s checklist at the end of the section

  • Wording revised in ‘Adverse events (including critical incidents’ and definition of a critical incident removed (to avoid confusion with the definition of an adverse event)

A supervisor’s tasks

  • Wording updated for clarity and accuracy

The designated supervisor

  • Added ‘Only an accredited specialist GP can be the designated supervisor for a GP registrar in a training site.’ for clarity

Coordinate the supervisory team

  • Wording revised for clarity

Develop a teaching plan

  • Wording updated to remove duplication with ‘Teaching time requirement’ section

Provide in-practice teaching

  • New section added ‘ReCEnT report discussion’
