Policy Update Notice - Australian Defence Force registrars guide


5 July 2024

This notice is to advise that the RACGP has updated the Australian Defence Force registrars guide. The updated guide will come into immediate effect, superseding the previous corresponding policies as of Friday, 5 July 2024.

What has changed?

Civilian general practice placements

ADF activities recognised as GP and/or EST training time
  • Content updated to provide a clearer outline of requirements to be met and the necessary forms to be used when applying to have the following activities counted as GPT and/or EST time:
    • Clinical courses and refresher training
    • Deployments and exercises within Australia
    • Placements with another garrison health site
    • Overseas deployment
  • Provide registrars with accurate and up-to-date information
  • Capture standardised process and documents recently developed by Accreditation team
Clinical courses and refresher training
  • Clarification that ADF registrars may apply to have up to 13 weeks of pre-approved courses or individually considered courses counted toward their EST term
  • Improve clarity for registrars and provide them with accurate and up-to-date information
ADF service leave
  • Content added advising ADR reservists are now able to access Category 3 Leave for courses, exercises, or deployments.
  • Capture CoC decision to allow ADF reservists to access Cat 3 Leave
Appendix 1 – RACGP-approved ADF medical courses
  • Inclusion of three RACGP-approved courses
    • Health Officer Basic Course (HOBC)
    • Medical Officer Introductory Course (MOIC)
    • Rotary Wing Aero-Medical Evacuation Course (RWAME)
  • Capture newly approved courses since last publication of guide.
Appendix 2 – Activities counted as GPT and/or EST
  • Appendix added
  • Summarise content from handbook, for use as quick reference by registrars
