Training locations

The RACGP offers a diversity of training experiences with training places in 10 regions across Australia. When you apply to the Australian General Practice Training Program, you can nominate up to four training regions where you’d like to undertake your training. Training regions may have specific subregions and training location requirements which are outlined in more detail in the AGPT Program Guide.

You can also visit the training regions pages to explore each region in more detail.

Rural and general pathways

In the Australian General Practice Training Program, you can apply to train in a general or rural pathway. General pathway registrars may train in a variety of urban, rural and remote locations. Rural pathway registrars train in rural and/or remote general practice placements.

If you’re an international medical graduate or a foreign graduate of an Australian medical school, you may be affected by the 10-year moratorium which may limit your pathway choice to rural pathway. For more information about the moratorium, see the AGPT Eligibility and Application Guide.
