Find out when you can apply for GP training

Applications to the Australia General Practice Training (AGPT) Program generally open from March to April annually. This is our primary intake, with training places across all training regions and pathways available for application.

Subsequent intakes may be held later in the year, pending training place availability.

Opens 3 March – 14 April 2026

In the main application intake, all 2027 training places will be available for application.

Opens 7 – 28 July 2026

This intake is open to new applicants, as well as those who successfully completed the national entry assessment during the 2027 main application intake and have not yet accepted a training place. Please note: training places will be limited and may not be available in all regions or pathways.

If training places remain available after the main and second application periods, remaining applicants who have successfully progressed through the national entry assessment in either application period may be invited to participate.
