Before you report an incident
Exam candidates must read the guidelines below before deciding if it is appropriate to submit an incident report.
If you wish to continue with your incident report submission, you must confirm that you have read the following information by clicking on “Report an incident” at the bottom of this page.
All incidents reported must contain sufficient and relevant detail and must be submitted within two business days of the final day of the exam.
Important note:
Marking is based solely on the performance of the candidate in the exam. Examiners submit candidate marks as soon as the case is completed. Exams cannot be re-marked, and grades cannot be changed because of an incident.
Candidates may receive compensation following a review of an incident, which is in the form of a reduced enrolment fee for a future exam of the same segment. There are no other forms of compensation available.
Issues that are not considered incidents
Candidates may encounter events during an exam that are not considered incidents and will not be compensated. Examples include, but are not limited to the following:
- Brief connection or technical issue that is compensated for at the time of the incident (in the case of online or exams delivered remotely)
- Technical issues (eg computer glitches) occurred before the exam began
- Role-player/examiner coughed or sneezed, dog barked
- Examiner/role-player accent
- Announcements during the exam
- Staff member entered the room during the case
- Known disturbance that caused pause in exam
- Recognising an examiner who is known to the candidate
- Not reading case instructions/details properly and missing vital information
- Names of the simulated patients on the case instructions
- Debriefing with other candidates after the exam and questioning why a particular answer/result was not also provided to them by an examiner
Presumption of fitness to sit
Candidates must ensure that they are sufficiently fit and healthy when they present for an exam. Marks are based solely on the performance of the candidate in the exam and cannot be changed based on personal circumstances (be they illness, or misadventure) surrounding the exam.
Note: Presumption of fitness to sit applies to all candidates, regardless of any approved applications for special arrangements within an exam sitting.
Candidates experiencing any of these conditions should consider their fitness to sit the exam.
- Minor illnesses or medical conditions
- Stress which would ordinarily be associated with preparation for or performance in assessments and/or exams
- Stress related to the result of travel arrangements made by the candidate
- Stress related to relationship difficulties, minor illness or medical condition affecting the individual

- Stress relating to excessive work commitments, including specific rostering arrangements leading up to the assessment or exam

- Work-related stress such as may be met in the course of normal medical practice
Incident report outcomes
All incident reports are investigated, including the impact on a candidate’s performance, and are considered by the Council of Censors (or delegate) before results are released.
If a candidate fails the exam and an incident is determined to have impacted their performance, compensation may be provided. Compensation is available in the form of a reduced enrolment fee for a future exam of the same segment. There are no other forms of compensation available. Exams will not be re-marked and results will not be adjusted.
Candidates will be advised the outcome of their submitted incident via email after exam results are released.
Examiners and administrative staff will not be advised of incident report outcomes.
