The first in a series of four Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) updates, this engaging case based discussion will assist GPs to overcome barriers associated with screening and management, including fibrosis assessment with Fibroscan®, treating high risk groups and identifying who to refer for treatment. It is presented by leading hepatologists, A/Prof Amany Zekry and Dr Miriam Levy.
- Identify risk factors for HCV and increase appropriate patient screening for HCV
- Understand the tests used to diagnose HCV infection, with a focus on HCV serology, HCV RNA testing and HCV genotyping
- Understand the importance of screening for cirrhosis and the key roles for Fibroscan® (liver elastography), and platelet count
- Identify patients suitable for specialist referral and antiviral therapy, and appropriate work-up
