Clinical Enhancement Module: Youth Mental Health

This Clinical Enhancement Module (CEM) offers GPs the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills in engaging with young people with mental illness and their families. Completion of a CEM is required for GPs undertaking mental health skills training (MHST) accreditation.

  • determine strategies for engaging a young person with mental illness and overcoming barriers to engagement
  • evaluate the mental health of young people using appropriate assessment techniques and validated psychometric instruments
  • develop evidence-based GP mental health treatment plans (MHTPs) in collaboration with young people and their carers
  • develop practice systems for ensuring that young people with mental illness are regularly reassessed and the effectiveness of their MHTP is re-evaluated
  • design practice systems that help ensure young people are connected with local resources to assist in providing holistic mental health care

Module 1 - Safer Opioid Prescribing: includes how to implement safe and effective opioid prescribing and how to recognise, prevent and respond to problematic opioid abuse.

Module 2 Part A: The aim of this module is to provide prescribers with the skills and confidence to assess, manage and initiate patients on Opioid Replacement Therapy

Saturday 13 November 8:30AM-12:30PM
Module 2 Part B: An interactive workshop facilitated by Dr Ferghal Armstrong.

On completion you'll be trained and ecognised as a prescriber for methadone and buprenorphine based assisted treatment of opioid dependence.

RACGP Victoria's Basic Life Support course is a GP peer to peer experience, delivered by a GP trainer, Dr Rod Campain. This course covers recognition of an emergency, DRSABCD, chest compressions and rescue breathing using COVID-safe resuscitation masks and equipment.

It includes a structured approach that GPs can use to treat all patients who may have a life threatening illness.

Completion of a BLS course is a requirement for the 2020-22 triennium. Secure your spot to update your BLS training and network with your peers.
