The Prep for PrEP workshop will examine the critical role GPs have in providing access to PrEP, which is an effective daily HIV preventative pill that can be taken by HIV negative people to prevent further HIV transmission. This will include training on initiating a PrEP discussion, identifying eligible patients, providing patient education around PrEP use and monitoring patients as key components to prescribing.
Prep for PrEP will also reinforce your skills in the provision of HIV and STI testing, using interactive methods to explore HIV and STI testing as part of routine care. Expert facilitators will demonstrate how to use and access practical HIV and STI clinical tools and will walk you through the steps required should a test return a positive result.

Men who have sex with men, but who do not identify as gay or bisexual are a priority group in the NSW Health HIV response. People in this group may or may not engage with traditional STI and HIV testing services, and may not even see themselves as being at risk of acquiring HIV.
General practice has a key role to play in preventing, testing and linking to care. This webinar will help equip GPs with the skills to identify patients within their practice who are at risk of HIV, and discuss HIV risk, prevention and treatment options.
