Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence: Online

The Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence (MATOD) program is designed to support Victorian GPs to implement safe and effective opioid prescribing and to recognise, prevent and respond to problematic opioid abuse. The aim of the training is to provide prescribers with the skills and confidence to assess, manage and initiate patients on Opioid Replacement Therapy. The training is delivered online through gplearning. It can be accessed at any time and is self-paced and self-guided.

This course can be started at any time throughout the year and once you have registered you will be enrolled into the course within 5 business days.

The MATOD program is a CPD Accredited Activity under the RACGP CPD Program.

Family Violence GP Education Program - ELearning Modules

The Family Violence GP Education Program eLearning modules are designed to provide you with an introduction to family violence. These modules can be completed either as a standalone set of training activities or as a pathway to the more comprehensive Family Violence GP Education Program.

  • Module 1: Identifying and responding to family violence
  • Module 2: Aboriginal and Torres Strai Islander Peoples
  • Module 3: MARAM and Information Sharing Schemes
  • Module 4: People who use Family Violence

The Family Violence GP Education Program eLearning modules are CPD Approved Activities, under the RACGP CPD Program, and are eligible for up to 3.5 CPD Hours (EA) once all modules are completed.

GP Balint Group

This Balint group is now underway. To express interest in an upcoming group, email wa@racgp.org.au

This 12-month Balint Group is proudly supported by WAPHA.

Balint groups are ideal for doctors facing challenging patient interactions and enable GPs to connect with and learn from peers. They’ve been shown to increase doctors’ sense of wellbeing and professional satisfaction.

This 12-month Balint group is facilitated by two experienced Balint leaders and consists of only 10-12 GPs.

Date:Every second Thursday of the month commencing October 2024 for 12 months
Time: 5.30-7.00 pm (AWST) and 6.30-8.00 pm during winter months
Cost: $600 for 12 month program (12 sessions). Payment prior to first session.Full fee is reimbursed at the end of program.
CPD:
1.5 hours RP per session

FPS CPD Case-Based Discussions

The Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) CPD case-based discussions is a continuing professional development activity that has been designed to support GPs who are already implementing FPS with patients, evaluating their practice, and further developing their skills. Each participant will present a case and through peer-group discussions, participants will extend their FPS skills by exploring the intervention methods they currently use. Participants will also review challenging cases and develop strategies for addressing barriers to achieving best practice.

This activity is offered via the Zoom platform and comprises of four, two-hour case-based discussion sessions from 5:30 - 7:30pm AEDT in the weeks of 18 November, 2 December, 9 December and 16 December 2024.

Cost: $395 for RACGP members and $495 for non-members.

This course is a CPD Approved Activity under the RACGP CPD Program (eligible for 9 hours) and accredited as an FPS CPD course by the GPMHSC.

This online course provides GPs with foundational CBT skills and is ideal for GPs who wish to include CBT in their clinical practice. Whilst aimed at rural GPs, it will be a useful resource for any GP interested in gaining skills in psychotherapy.

The training comprises six interactive learning modules; each taking one hour to complete and can be completed at your own pace.

This course is a CPD Approved Activity. GPs can earn 4 EA and 2 RP CPD hours.

The course is also GPMHSC-accredited for MH CPD and FPS CPD.

ADHD - Diagnosis of a Disorder or Disorder of Diagnosis

Dr Alhussain Aldabbagh, Paediatrician will discuss patient presentations associated with the diagnosis of ADHD and ASD. The session will include contemporary thinking and practice experience around the application of Australia's recently launched ADHD clinical guideline which is NHMRC and RACGP endorsed. Dr Aldabbagh presents a semantical viewpoint on how we understand developmental and mental health disorders.

- Describe the differences between a diagnosis and a mental health disorder
- Recall key elements of recent psychoeducational guidelines on ADHD
- Outline the different layers of complexity of ADHD diagnosis in clinical practice

Nantu Wama Parkrun

parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, or run 5k, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit, and no one finishes last.

The RACGP has partnered with parkrun Australia to promote the health and wellbeing of our communities. GP practices are encouraged to develop close links with their local parkrun to become a parkrun practice.

RACGP SA is pleased to be taking part in the Nantu Wama parkrun (Lefevre Park, North Adelaide). Members are invited to meet at College House prior to the parkrun, with light refreshments available at College House following the event.

Online Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training

The RACGP Rural Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) package provides GPs with essential training to enable them to become a GP provider of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) and provide CBT-derived FPS counselling to patients in their practice.

This flexible, innovative training package is made up of four Modules and uses a combination of technology, peer learning groups and locally available resources to provide GPs with access to FPS skills training whist remaining in their practice and community.

Please note: Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training (MHST) is a prerequisite for enrolment in the FPS ST training package.

The training package has GPMHSC accreditation and on completion GPs can gain FPS provider registration with Medicare to access FPS related MBS numbers 2721, 2723, 2725 and 2727.

Cost:RACGP Members: $1,279 (Inc GST) and Non-members $1,579 (Inc GST)
